Minister of Environment learns of Lifosa’s activities and investments from up close

Lifosa, one of Europe’s largest and most modern fertiliser producers, was visited by Minister of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania Simonas Gentvilas and Vice-minister Raminta Radavičienė. The guests were interested in the company’s activities and environmental impact and had the opportunity to learn about its environment-focused investments and environmentally-friendly projects.

The guests were greeted by Rimantas Proscevičius, CEO at Lifosa AB, who pointed out that most manufacturing processes have fundamentally changed during the almost six decades since the company’s inception. Compared with the levels of 1990, the company’s emissions decreased by a factor of seven or more, and the company’s environmental impact has recently remained uncharged despite the constantly growing production volume. The company is able to achieve this through technological development and rational use of natural resources. Lifosa AB allocates around one third of its total investments every year to environmentally-friendly projects.

At the start of this year, a 1 MW solar power plant started operating on site. It produces an additional 18 GWh of electricity for the plant a year, almost 6% of which is produced in an environmentally-friendly manner. This and numerous other investment projects allow Lifosa to contribute to European Union’s goal of achieving climate neutrality in the continent by 2050.

The company did not seek additional emission allowances this year and is not planning to do so in the future. Its consistent and goal-oriented investments into environmentally-friendly solutions and sustainable development allow Lifosa to maintain its emission levels below those permitted by the allowances it already has. Today, Lifosa AB’s products, manufacturing processes and technologies meet all applicable international standards and requirements.
