2018.06.05

The Klaipėda team representing Lithuania won the vice-champion title of the children's ice hockey tournament EuroChem Cup 2018 held in Novomoskovsk, Russia on 26th-29th May. Players from Klaipėda reached the very final without any setbacks and were overtaken only by the Novomoskovsk team Victoria which played at home and won the first prize.

Children aged 10-12 took part in this tournament. A total of 12 teams from 8 countries participated in the tournament commonly referred to as the unofficial world championship for kids' hockey. Five teams represented different cities of Russia and the other participants came from the United States, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Lithuania and Switzerland.

"We have been participating in this tournament for several years and every time we come back home full of the best impressions. We have never experienced such a warm welcome before. Children are always welcomed by our team's fan club based in Novomoskovsk, the members of which not only support our team during the whole tournament, but also communicate closely and friendly after competitions," told Eduardas Pavliukovas, the head of Hockey Club Klaipėda and the coach of U12 group.

The international company EuroChem Group AG registered in Switzerland, the shareholder of AB Lifosa, has been holding tournaments in children's ice hockey since 2013 and, year after year, receives an increased number of teams. Geography of participants is also expanding: this year, for the first time in the tournament's history, guests from the United States competed for the EuroChem Cup. Their team, the Albany Capitals, was 10th in this year's tournament. "It's been an amazing experience, from the organization point of view right down to the quality," said Brad Chartrand, the team's head coach of the Albany Capitals. "We thank the organizers for their hospitality and professionalism. We can't wait to come back next year."
